The Right Hand and the Left Hand

The whole idea of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) was to be a clearinghouse of law enforcement and national security information. That's a good thing except DHS hasn't proven itself to be effective yet with its many levels of bureaucracy and inability to focus on the real problems of border security. Now DHS is planing its own computer forensics institute.

This seems like a good idea, except you must have credibility to train. The feds have done very little to prove they are serious about enforcing the law and securing our borders. As far as I'm concerned, the government hasn't passed any tests that give them credit to create new projects. In the business world, this is called accountability.

At this point, I don't have a lot of faith in our federal security infrastructure and policies. From the Administration on down to the TSA, the incompetence is mind-boggling. The government lacks real leadership. Our so-called leaders these days are sound-bite spewing hyper-critics who would rather gain political points than actually when a war, deport illegal aliens, and send a message to future terrorists that we are united.

Imagine being a local police officer in computer forensics class and being told you need to do everything you can to catch the bad guys. Then you watch the news and see how the Department of Justice will go well out of its way to give a pass to illegal aliens who testify against Border Patrol agents or local law enforcement.

Then it came to light last month that Ignacio Ramos was beaten by inmates at a prison as they were shouting "kill the Border Patrol agent" in Spanish. There are no words for the outrage I feel over a law enforcement officer in prison for doing his job while the illegal alien he wounded was given immunity.

If the government can't even get the basic spirit of our laws, then I've lost faith in any new, money-wasting programs it comes up with. Every time you read about new government programs for national security or law enforcement, think of the duplicity of a government that would rather put its own citizens in jail rather than get tough on illegals.
