Icarus Was a Real Guy

This story is mildly interesting. More interesting to me is the way the reporter tried to make it into something it wasn't using drama. It's about a professor in Canada, J.D. DeLaurier, who is attempting to create a working ornithopter.

If it succeeds, the flight will fulfill a dream that has foiled Icarus, Leonardo da Vinci and other, more modern aviation pioneers–that is, to achieve flight by means of undulating wings.

Icarus? You mean this Icarus? Seriously?

Occasionally I complain about shoddy journalism; this time is no different. The story itself is benign. But here is a reporter that seriously places a mythological character right next to Leonardo da Vinci, a real historical figure. Then the writer actually calls them both aviation pioneers.

Let me check again. Nope, this article didn't come from The Onion.
